ADAPT for Youth
ADAPT is a national grassroots group that fights to make sure people with disabilities live outside institutions and nursing homes, in their own homes and communities. ADAPT started in the 1970s, when 19 youth with disabilities parked wheelchairs in front of busses that were not accessible. This started the disability movement for accessible public transportation! This group has grown into a national disability advocacy group that fights disability discrimination. ADAPT is currently planning its youth conference for summer of 2008 in Chicago.
