Report fuels media, policy stir
The release of the DRW report, Too Little Too Late, stirred media and social network outlets, prompting a formal state response during Gov. Gregoire’s December budget press conference.
The November report highlighted state failure to respond to the abuse and neglect of individuals with intellectual disabilities who live in state-funded supported living.
One of the report recommendations calls for more state investigators to ameliorate backlogged, uninvestigated complaints. During the Governor’s press conference, the question was posed as to whether or not the state would indeed fund more investigators to respond to abuse allegations in group homes.
The state confirmed the proposed budget included additional investigators, and that a workgroup had been formed to address the other issues raised in the report.
